In response to Tina Laporta.

The notion of the immateriality in digital arts brings up a whole new set of commodification anxieties.

i.e. the economic survival of the artist

With the dissappearance of the artist's object for sale and the lack of the guaranteed singularity of the art project i.e. in theory the market could be flooded with the non-object making it monitarily invalid though culturally expressive.

What are the possible futures for making a living without "selling out to the corporate matrix" The future of the artist will be tied to government support (directly or indirectly) through personal grants or payments from non commercial galleries supported with government grants.

How can we as artists in new media maintain personal vision yet at the same time make ends meet (pay the bills)

The web brings about possibilities although they have barely been touched at this point in history.

I would love to here from any artist out there who is doing it for is/herself without corporate or government support and without the object. Sounds
impossible to me.

I myself make computer and video art. The only way i can see paying the bills is to bring the non-object to the realm of object through print media so as to be possesed in limited quantities so as to become valuable.

Is there any way out of this.
