actually the immobility (and silence) required of moviegoers is more of a=
public ordinance than a precondition for montage to work. take ye ol' time=
square electronic screen billboard for example;-)

actually there lurks in the quote you chose (which i also noted in my=
daybook) a grisley bit of truth that underpins all illusionist activities.=
Daney's observation I think also contains an important subtext referring to=
Foucault, or depending on your mood, de Sade.

the translation of the 'vicegrip' of Row F into the private domain of the=
net agent is essentially a difficult one. the interface right here and now=
is quite opposed to filmgoing. i am alone, smoking a cigerette listening to=
will oldham tibet-crooning "fuck him, fuck him with something, fuck, he=
deserves it." and i only wish that computer designers would forget the=
typewriter metaphor, and even that beast, the car, and their sadistic=
science of ergonomic measurement. I think all the geeks moulding joysticks=
with their 5 fingers, and rubbing preparation-h all over their aching=
bones, should be force fed TOTAL RECALL for a long long weekend, till they=
realize that this interface is a simple design problem. it has nothing to=
do with art, only with comfort, staying power and the ability to do other=
things at the same time as being here. jeez i could use a salad right now,=
but my voice synthesizer and wall creen dont fucking exist.

until then ill get myself a couple of c-clamps and stay put, wondering if=
Daney is right after all ;-)
